What is HIFU Lifting (Shurink), and and who is it right for?
HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound) lifting is a non-surgical lift that focuses ultrasound heat on the fascia layer (SMAS) and dermis beneath the skin to tighten tissue and stimulate collagen production, lifting sagging along the jawline and cheeks. At The Barunface, Shurink is used to care for the elasticity of the soft tissue left over after bone is reduced in cheekbone, square jaw, and V-line surgery, and we recommend it instead of surgery for mild sagging or a soft jawline that is not a bone problem.

How does Shurink work?
Ultrasound energy passes over the skin surface and is concentrated point by point in the dermis and fascia layer (1.5–4.5mm depth), creating thermal coagulation points. The tissue tightens, and collagen regenerates over several months, improving elasticity.
When can I have it after contouring surgery?
The doctor recommends it after examining your condition, usually 2–3 months after surgery, once swelling has subsided and the bones have stabilized. During the early recovery stage right after surgery, regenerative lasers such as Smartlux and LDM are used first.
How long do the results last?
The effect builds up over 1–3 months and lasts 6–12 months. Results may be limited for those with significant sagging or thick skin.
When Dr. Lee Recommends Treatment
Whether to recommend HIFU lifting (Shurink) is decided by diagnosis, not by photos or trends. Below are the criteria Dr. Lee actually uses in consultations, in his own words.
The goals and direction the patient hopes to achieve through surgery must match the goals and direction of the surgeon performing it.
I try to be straightforward and plain: I explain why something can be done and why something cannot.
Consultations where we did not actually recommend the treatment
Even among patients who come with the same concern, once the skeletal condition and the desired change are considered, there are cases where treatment is not the answer. This is the conclusion of a consultation in which the doctor made that judgment.
Because the cheekbone prominence is not severe and the changes achievable through skeletal surgery are limited given the proportions of your face, we do not actively recommend cheekbone reduction surgery or orthognathic (double jaw) surgery.

Tests and Preparation Before Your Consultation
For non-surgical treatments, too, we first look at the cause. If the cause is bone, non-surgical treatment may not deliver the change you hope for, which is why we tell you so.
| Test | What We Look At |
|---|---|
| Facial assessment consultation | We first look at whether the cause is sagging, volume, fat, or muscle. |
| Photo records | We take photos under the same conditions for before-and-after comparison. |
| Checking skeletal structure | If bone is the cause, a surgical consultation may be more appropriate than a non-surgical treatment, so we will tell you honestly. |
